LONG BEACH, Calif., Feb. 5, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- "White Rain," the fourth and final novel in "The Misadventures of Max Bowman" detective series, has been selected by the Indie editors of Kirkus Reviews to be featured in their February 1 issue. Less than 10% of indie authors are selected for this distinction, which Dark Sky, the first novel in the series, received in 2014.
Written by novelist and screenwriter Joel Canfield, "White Rain" catches up with ever-reluctant hero Max Bowman 10 months after "Red Earth," the series' previous installment, left off. Confined to a "retirement village" for spooks with secrets called The Community, we join Max far from his apartment, his dog and the majority of his faculties—as he's being kept dazed and docile via a steady diet of benzenoid-laced ice cream. A daring midnight golf cart escape launches him into a world he doesn't recognize.
"Max has been cynical throughout the series," explains Kirkus in its review of the book, "but in this bracing and enjoyable tale, readers will surely sympathize with him as he hears what he's missed (primarily in 2017). His reaction to Donald Trump as president and Coke Zero becoming Coke Zero Sugar is apropos: 'What the hell had happened to the world in the past ten months?'"

The book then follows Max as he tries to regain the life he once had—by making a deal with an oily lobbyist that lands Max smack in the middle of a bizarre plot that reflects the political turmoil of today's America—and forces Max to confront his own painful personal history. As Kirkus Reviews puts it, "A comically eccentric detective gets a terrific and fitting send-off" in this fourth and final novel.
White Rain is available on Amazon.com in paperback, eBook and audiobook formats, as are the three previous installments in the series, Dark Sky, Blue Fire (a 2016 Benjamin Franklin Digital Awards Silver Honoree and a Publisher's Weekly Book Life Prize in Fiction semi-finalist), and Red Earth (a 2017 Benjamin Franklin Digital Awards Gold Honoree).
