JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Sept. 11, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- InternationalStudent.com is thrilled to introduce its 16th annual Travel Video Contest. The contest aims to provide an opportunity for international students to showcase their story and video skills for a chance to win up to $4,000. Since 2006, InternationalStudent.com has received over one thousand video entries from all parts of the world. Contest winners have gone on to use prize money to travel and study outside of their home country. Fiqah Rahman, a graduate journalism student at NYU, took home last year's grand prize for her short documentary-style video, In the Light of COVID-19. She went on to graduate from her program at NYU shortly after and was awarded the Marlene Sanders Journalism Award for her full-length documentary, Finding Freedom.
International Education Week is a time to celebrate international students, educators and advocates. In honor of International Education Week, which is November 15-19 this year, InternationalStudent.com will announce the winners of the Travel Video Contest on November 19th.
Bryanna Davis, Director of InternationalStudent.com, is honored to lead the contest in it's 16th year. "Our team looks forward to this time of year because we love doing this contest. Each year on September 1st our anticipation grows when the contest opens- then, the excitement reaches its height as we get to watch the entries. Students get very creative and it's interesting to see each individual interpretation of our theme," says Davis.
To be eligible for the contest entrants must meet the following:
- Currently studying outside of their home country or have a proposed study abroad
- Be at least 18 years old
- Complete an eligible contest entry form
- Follow all contest rules and regulations
Four winners will be selected by a panel of judges consisting of esteemed international educators, international education advocates and past contest winners. The cash prizes for winners range from $250-$4,000. This year's prizes are:
Grand Prize: $4,000
Second Place: $500
Third Place: $250
Viewers' Choice Award: $1,000
"Students must touch on the topic of "community" in their submission but it's up to the student to identify who their community is and how they will incorporate it into their video. We encourage a high level of creativity with this contest and those who can tell their story in an engaging, unique way have the opportunity to really flourish in this competition," said Davis.
In a creative 2-minute or less video, current international students or students who have an international education journey planned must show how "community" has impacted or influenced their international education pursuit. Examples could include highlighting family, a work or church community, an academic community, an ethnic group that they are a part of, an online community, etc.
All InternationalStudent.com Travel Video Contest entries must be submitted prior to October 13, 2021 at 11:59 p.m Eastern Time. Voting for the viewers' choice award will take place after the contest closes. The winner of the viewers' choice award will receive $1,000 and automatically move on to the finalists round. The panel of judges will carefully review each finalist's video to select the grand prize, second place and third place winners. Winners will be announced November 19, 2021, the final day of International Education Week.
