LOS ANGELES, Nov. 5, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- On December 3, 2018, 1in6 and The Barrow Group Theatre Company will present a benefit performance of the Obie Award-winning play The Tricky Part. Written and performed by Martin Moran and directed by Seth Barrish, the one-night only event will be held on December 3 at The Barrow Group Theatre (312 West 36th Street, 3rd Floor), taking place during a revival run of The Tricky Part from November 29th through December 16th.
All ticket sales and contributions will go towards funding 1in6's efforts to aid male-identifying survivors of sexual abuse and assault on their path to happier, healthier lives. These include online support groups for survivors and partners, a 24/7 helpline, presentations and trainings for those who treat male survivors, and awareness-raising campaigns, such as 1in6's recent public service announcement (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2p06x-yumc0), which has garnered more than 4 million views across various platforms since its release in April 2018, including Upworthy.
As part of the event, 1in6 will also be honoring several individuals who have aided in advancing its mission, including Dr. David Lisak, founding board member of 1in6 and founder of The Bristlecone Project (photographic portraits of and interviews with male survivors from across the world); and Anna Isaacson and Clare Graff from the NFL, who is sponsoring the evening along with Broadway Cares.
A wine reception will precede the show at 6:30pm, and an exhibition of The Bristlecone Project will be on display in the theatre lobby. Following the 8pm performance, Martin Moran will lead a discussion with actor, director, and 1in6 board vice president Anthony Edwards, and former NFL player and 1in6 board member Reggie Walker.
"The Tricky Part is not only a fantastic piece of theatre, but a truly compelling story by a gifted writer and actor, and a singularly moving experience. It will surely be the centerpiece for a night of celebration acknowledging the work of an exceptional organization," said Edwards.
Martin Moran added, "I'm thrilled to partner with 1in6 for a very special evening dedicated to helping advance their reach, serve even more of the millions of male survivors who have had unwanted experiences, and engage in dialogue about this important issue in the wider community."
TIcket purchases ($200 each) for the show and donations in any amount can be made here: http://www.trickypart1in6.eventbrite.com. To make other inquiries about the performance, please contact 1in6 Director of Development and Communications Seth Stewart at seth(at)1in6.org.
The mission of 1in6 is to help men who have had unwanted or abusive sexual experiences live healthier, happier lives. Our mission also includes serving family members, friends, partners, and service providers by providing information and support resources on the web and in the community.
