Team Lloyd Irvin Martial Arts Sends First Female Representative to Abu Dhabi Combat Club World Submission Grappling Tournament
Temple Hills, MD (PRWEB) October 11, 2013 -- Team Lloyd Irvin Martial Arts Academy has a tradition of firsts. The Academy was first opened by Lloyd Irvin Jr in 1996 in Forrestville, MD. Now, almost 17 years later, the school has grown to over 200 students and continues to grow and make history. Lloyd Irvin Jr became only the third American to receive his Black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in less than 4 years, also, at the time, the only Black man in America to reach the Black belt level. Nyjah Easton, in 2012, became the first African-American female to receive her Black belt. Team Lloyd Irvin is the only All-American adult team to place at the IBJJF European Championships and the IBJJF World Championships.
Team Lloyd Irvin continues to make history, this time within its Academy walls. Nyjah Easton, who began training Jiu Jitsu under Master Lloyd Irvin at the age of 16, was the team's first World Champion when she won the Worlds in 2008 at purple belt. Now, she’s the team's first ever female invited to the Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) World Submission Grappling Tournament.
The ADCC is grappling's largest, most-prestigious No Gi tournament in the World. The tournament is invite-only, single-elimination, and one of the few grappling tournaments to offer large cash prizes to the male and female finalists. The 2013 ADCC tournament will be hosted in Beijing, China on October 19th and 20th at the Beijing Ditan Gymnasium.
Nyjah Easton, 25, will be representing Team Lloyd Irvin Martial Arts Academy at the -60KG female division. Her division includes black belt world champions Luanna Alzuguir and Michelle Nicolini, plus legendary grapplers like Anna Tavares. Nyjah Easton is looking forward to this “amazing opportunity.”
“I’m very excited,” says Nyjah, “this is an amazing opportunity. The ADCC is a tough tournament, and to be invited is truly an honor. I look forward to giving my best, representing Team Lloyd Irvin well, and of course, bringing home that gold medal!”
