ProAct Safety Celebrates 20 Years Leading Safety Excellence

Terry L. Mathis, the company’s chief executive officer, founded the company in 1993 to help organizations create proactive, results-driven, practical and sustainable safety strategies. In 2005, Mathis was joined by Shawn M. Galloway, now ProAct Safety’s president and chief operating officer. Galloway is known as a leading safety excellence thought expert, in part through his hosting of weekly Safety Culture Excellence® podcasts since 2008, dozens of videos, more than a hundred published articles, and co-authorship with Mathis of the 2013 book STEPS to Safety Culture Excellence.
Galloway said it has been gratifying to watch the industry changing and maturing over the past decade. In particular, he said, executive management within best-performing organizations has integrated safety into management goals, as opposed to simply supporting safety activities on the frontlines. He believes the next decade of safety will revolve around innovative ways safety excellence can strengthen the overall business through a focus on adding value, rather than being managed as a cost-center.
