Dayton Business Journal Names United’s President Executive of the Year

United Theological Seminary President Wendy Deichmann stands with her Executive of the Year Award.

Because of her vision, her dedication and her ability to lead and inspire her team, United has made significant turnaround.

Dr. Wendy Deichmann, President of United Theological Seminary (United), has been named 2013 Executive of the Year by the Dayton Business Journal.

The Business of the Year Awards are presented at the prestigious black-tie gala that honors companies and business leaders from throughout the Miami Valley who have outshined their competitors. This year's gala was held Nov. 7.

“Wendy is a visionary,” explained Bishop George Bashore, United’s Board of Trustees Chairman. “Over the last six years, under President Deichmann’s leadership, United has undertaken a number of initiatives – some of the programs are unique to United and are possibly the first of their kind in the nation. Because of her vision, her dedication and her ability to lead and inspire her team, United Theological Seminary has made a significant turnaround. Enrollment has grown significantly and the Seminary has returned to financial stability and growth.”

Dr. Deichmann is the first woman chief executive of a freestanding United Methodist seminary in the United States. Since she became President in 2008, United has tripled its student population. It now has an enrollment of more than 600 students.

United Theological Seminary, now in its 143rd year, is one of the fastest growing theological schools in the United States. It was founded in 1871 by Milton Wright, a Bishop in The United Brethren Church and father of Wilbur, Orville and Katherine Wright. United offers accredited theological degrees and non-degree education for laity and clergy. Courses are offered both on-campus and online. For more information, visit http://www.united.edu.
