Houston, Texas (PRWEB) November 25, 2013 -- The Houston, Texas-based Mostyn Law hosted a fundraising event for its MS 150 team this past Friday.
The event sought to organize future fundraisers to support the Firm’s team for the upcoming MS 150 bike ride this April. Employees of the Firm and supporters were asked to join the team or help organize a fundraising event, such as a bake sale, silent auction, or a garage sale. Funds from these events will be included with money donated by Steve and Amber Mostyn, the Firm’s owners. All proceeds will go to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to help advance MS research.
“We look forward to the MS 150 ride every year,” said Amber Mostyn. “The work done by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in promoting research and awareness is incredible. We’re proud to support the MS Society and those suffering from MS.”
The Texas MS 150 is one of the largest organized bike rides for MS awareness in the country. In 2011, more than $16 million was raised by riders and supporters. The money is earmarked for MS research and support. Riders start the ride in Houston and cover the 180 mile distance to Austin over two days. Throughout the ride, participants will be supported by volunteers that provide food, water, and any necessary medical treatment. The 2014 MS 150 will be Mostyn Law's fifth year of participation.
“This ride is an important event for our Firm and families,” said Steve Mostyn. “When people get involved, they quickly realize that almost everyone knows someone affected by this disease. From friends and relatives to co-workers and neighbors, MS is not something that’s isolated. It impacts our communities in very real ways that we have to address.”
Along with employees of the Firm, Friday’s event was also attended by Cyronica Upshaw, with the MS Society, and Dr. Elizabeth Dragan, an MS research fellow at the Baylor College of Medicine. Each spoke about the importance of fundraising for MS research with Dr. Dragon remarking that her position would not exist without the support of the MS 150. Attendees were also treated to a brief talk by Lisa Sailor, who shared her own personal experiences in dealing with MS.
So far, the Mostyn Law MS 150 team has 16 members with recruiting and fundraising continuing until March.
