Attorney Hudaidah Bhimdi Ahmed Appointed to Virginia Asian Advisory Board
Richmond, VA (PRWEB) December 16, 2013 -- In recent months, Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell appointed Immigration Attorney Hudaidah Bhimdi Ahmed as a member of the Virginia Asian Advisory Board. This announcement was made in a news release posted on the Governor’s website on Nov. 1, 2013 (“Governor McDonnell Announces Board and Commission Appointments”). Ms. Ahmed is the Lead Litigation Attorney at Fayad Law, P.C. and the Senior Attorney for the firm’s Falls Church office. She is honored to have the new opportunity to serve the Commonwealth of Virginia though this new role.

According to the Virginia Asian Advisory Board’s website, the role of this board is to provide information and advice to the Governor concerning issues that impact the Asian population in Virginia, and to advocate for this population’s interests. Furthermore, the board was created to advise the Governor on ways to strengthen economic and cultural ties between the Commonwealth and Asian countries, particularly in the areas of trade and commerce, general government, and art and education. Virginia’s Asian population is one that has seen significant growth in the Commonwealth over the past couple of decades.
The Virginia Asian Advisory Board has a total of 21 members, with a requirement that at least 11 of those members are of Asian descent, according to the board’s website. Each member serves a four-year term, which means that Attorney Ahmed’s term will end in 2017. The board meets four times each year, with the end product being an annual report with recommendations to the Governor on topics such as business, trade, health and education, as these topics pertain to the Asian community. The Virginia Asian Advisory Board was created following an Executive Order made by Governor Mark R. Warner in 2001. In 2003, the order was signed into law and codified.
Ms. Ahmed is an immigration lawyer who is passionate about her field, especially since her own family has gone through the immigration experience firsthand. The lawyer was born in Pakistan, but her family immigrated to the United States and eventually became U.S. citizens. Attorney Ahmed’s personal experience allows her to better relate to the challenges her clients are going through, which only further fuels her drive to help them achieve the American Dream.
The lawyer has a bachelor’s degree in political science with a minor in international studies, a master’s degree in public administration and a law degree, which she received from the University of Richmond. Prior to going to law school, Attorney Ahmed served as a Court Appointed Guardian Ad Litem for the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) in Richmond. While in law school, she served as an intern for the Honorable Judge Pedro Echarte, Jr. of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida. She also interned for the Office of Civil Rights of the Department of Homeland Security’s Transportation Security Administration, which was in Arlington, Va. Today, Attorney Ahmed solely practices immigration law and nationality law, with a focus on employment-based immigration, family-based immigration and status violations. She believes in working hard for her clients and providing them with the honesty and compassion they deserve.
