Network for Good Powers Nearly $1 Million in Disaster Relief Donations for Oklahoma
Washington, DC (PRWEB) July 08, 2013 -- In the two weeks following the tornado that devastated Moore, Oklahoma, Network for Good processed $760,000 in donations to aid survivors. The majority of donations came via employee giving programs and peer-to-peer fundraisers dedicated to disaster relief.
Network for Good powered Oklahoma relief donations through its own website and via several partner sites such as CrowdRise, Yahoo!, Charity Navigator and Capital One’s No Hassle Giving Site. Employee donations were processed through the YourCause and MicroEdge platforms, both powered by Network for Good. Network for Good nonprofit client Matthew 25: Ministries raised significant funds for its disaster relief work in Oklahoma.
To provide donors with the tools to make informed giving decisions, Network for Good curates a list of relief organizations responding to the crisis, and works with corporate and nonprofit partners to promote donation links and mobile optimized landing pages.
As with past disasters, many donations were directed to the American Red Cross (about 60%) Additionally, the majority of donations (about 80%) were concentrated across a handful of emergency response charities. Other organizations rounding out the top five include: Matthew: 25 Ministries, Save the Children, The Salvation Army, Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.
In response to the tornadoes in Oklahoma, Network for Good noted giving trends followed typical disaster relief patterns: peaking then falling within a few days.
The donation volume trended in lockstep with the media coverage of the response, and the average gift size was in line with typical disaster relief donations at $70.
