Center for Discovery Sponsors Event Addressing Behavioral Issues in Adoptive Families and Families with Attachment Issues
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 01, 2013 -- Center for Discovery, a national leader in residential treatment for teens and adolescents, has announced a free continuing education event entitled ‘Behavioral Issues in Adoptive Families and Families with Attachment Issues.’ The purpose of this free event, which will include a presentation from Dr. G. Frank Lawlis, PhD, ABPP, is to help parents and professionals utilize tools that will strengthen and improve relationships with hard to reach children. The continuing education event will be offered on Thursday, July 25 at 11:00AM in Costa Mesa, California and again on Friday, July 26 at 11:00 AM in Los Angeles, California.
The discussion regarding behavioral issues in adoptive families will cover many of the common bonding barriers that adoptive families encounter as well as effective methods for working through and overcoming these barriers. Dr. Lawlis will specifically discuss communication skills, discipline steps, rhythmic stimulation and diet considerations in the context of building healthy family relationships. Dr. Lawlis will also address topics such as sibling rivalry, brain development, aging and brain function, self-identification and cultural values and thinking processes. Finally, Dr. Lawlis will discuss the potential role that treatment programs can fill in providing additional assistance and support to families facing behavioral issues stemming from adoption or attachment disorders.
Dr. Lawlis has focused on clinical and research methods of the mind-body relationship since 1968. Dr. Lawlis cofounded the Lawlis and Peavey PsychoNeuroPlasticity Center and is currently serving a project called “Camp Better America” and an adviser and instructor. Dr. Lawlis has also been Chief Content and Oversight Adviser as well as Chairman of the Dr. Phil Advisory Board since the inception of the Dr. Phil show.
