The Last Resort Recovery Center Presents Discussion with Former NBA Boston Celtic
Austin, Texas (PRWEB) July 05, 2013 -- As the first in a series of collaborative efforts between The Last Resort Recovery Center and The Center for Students in Recovery, Chris Herren, former NBA Boston Celtic and star of ESPN’s 30 for 30 documentaries, Unguarded, will share his personal story of addiction and how he found a way to overcome it all. Both organizations are setting out to increase awareness of addiction in our community and invite the public to attend the free event to learn more about Austin drug rehab options.
The event will take place at the Lyndon B. Johnson Auditorium at the LBJ Library on Wednesday, July 17 at 8:30 p.m.
“I first discovered Chris Herren through ESPN’s 30 for 30 documentaries, Unguarded. In this documentary, Jonathan Hock depicts an incredible story about the success and failures of Herren, a high school basketball All-American student,” said Austin Berry, alumni coordinator for the Last Resort Recovery Center. “He was launched into the spotlight at an early age and found a way to cope with the pressure through alcohol and drugs. After being kicked off two college teams, he was still drafted into the NBA.”
Herren played for the Denver Nuggets and his hometown team, the Boston Celtics, until his addiction took a toll for the worse. While bouncing from team to team and from country to country, he watched his life, his career and his family all disappear in front of his eyes. After hitting multiple rock bottoms, Herren found a way through treatment, recovery and a drug rehab center to rebuild his life.
This event will be free to the public and free parking is available in the LBJ Library parking lot. Seating is limited and guests can like The Last Recovery Resort Center Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/LRRecovery to reserve their spot for the inspirational event.
