Student Loan Alliance Trains Over 100 Counselors to Provide Student Loan Repayment Counseling
WASHINGTON, D.C (PRWEB) July 09, 2013 -- In April, the Student Loan Alliance (SLA) launched StudentLoanHelp.org, a website designed to help consumers explore their student loan repayment options. At StudentLoanHelp.org a consumer can connect with a counselor at a nonprofit credit counseling agency for a personalized student loan counseling session. Of the nine credit counseling agencies that participate in the SLA, over one hundred counselors have been trained on best practices for student loan counseling to date.
“By providing all counselors with standardized training protocols, the SLA aims to ensure that all consumers who request counseling at StudentLoanHelp.org receive the same quality level of service,” said Larry Gilmore, President of the SLA. In order to measure a counselor’s understanding of student loan repayment options, the SLA also administers an exam for counselors to take upon completion of training.
In addition to the student loan training provided by the SLA, these counselors have a vast knowledge of other types of consumer debt and experience in counseling individuals with diverse financial concerns, from homeowners facing foreclosure to borrowers who cannot afford their credit card payments.
Upon completion of the SLA’s student loan training, counselors are equipped with the necessary tools to address the needs of today’s student loan borrowers. The ability of these counselors to provide complete, comprehensive counseling aligns directly with the vision of the Student Loan Alliance.
“The SLA promotes the importance of holistic student loan counseling,” said Gilmore. “So in addition to providing education about a individual’s student loan options, counselors help consumers by creating a personalized budget and developing an action plan to outline the next steps as they work towards their financial goals.”
More information about the SLA can be found at StudentLoanAlliance.org. Student loan borrowers are welcomed to visit StudentLoanHelp.org.
