York Region Money Coaches was recently featured in two national publications for advocating a refreshing approach to personal finance.

For the past three years, residents of York Region have been quietly seeking the services of a new type of business in the financial industry. York Region Money Coaches was founded in 2010 to help residents achieve their financial goals through budgeting, debt elimination and investment education, but without any product selling.

Recently, the company has attracted the interest of two of the most prominent publications in Canada. The Globe & Mail and Canadian Living Magazine have both run dedicated articles featuring York Region Money Coaches, bringing attention to Newmarket and the progressive approach to personal finance that this independent company advocates.

Trevor Van Nest, Founder/Owner of York Region Money Coaches, cites three reasons why the ‘no product selling approach’ is attracting interest from the press and clients from across central Ontario: the need to improve financial literacy, the need to pay down debt, and the need to prepare for retirement.

"There is an abundance of people right now who just want to get their personal finances under control," says Van Nest. "My company addresses this need head-on with customized advice and no financial product selling. For those seeking professional and unbiased advice it’s a refreshing approach. The recent national coverage certainly helps to spread the word that there is a non-traditional option available to those who want to tackle their money challenges, whatever those challenges may be."

"It really is rewarding to be involved in the success of small businesses in this great town," says Debra Scott, President and CEO of Newmarket’s Chamber of Commerce. "Trevor contacted the Chamber as soon as he opened his doors and he was able to take advantage of many of our services these past few years. It’s great now to see his company recognized on the national stage."

"Newmarket is a community proud of its business people and their accomplishments," adds the Mayor of Newmarket, Tony Van Bynen. "We have hundreds of small and growing businesses that provide innovative products and services that meet the evolving needs of our residents. I think it is wonderful that York Region Money Coaches has attracted the attention of the national press. It is one of many companies that take a progressive approach to serving our community. And we’re proud to support a business environment that allows companies like York Region Money Coaches to flourish. It’s all a part of what makes Newmarket one of the top 10 places to live in Canada."
