"United We Stand Up" Indo-Pak Comedy Shows
Union City, CA (PRWEB) July 25, 2013 -- Celebrate Indian and Pakistani Independence Day through comedy. Parades are boring!
“United We Stand Up” is a show celebrating Indian and Pakistani Independence Day through comedy about the Indian and Pakistani diaspora. Samson and Dhaya have produced and performed sold-out shows such as “Presidential Debates + Comedy” and “ImmigraNation.”
“Indians and Pakistanis have much in common. We have foods in common and we’re brown,” says Dhaya, a daughter of Indian immigrants who grew up a Hindu in Alabama. “And women in both countries are about as free to make choices as they are in say, Texas…. (that was a joke about Texas in case you didn’t get it).” Dhaya is a rising star in comedy, performing her socio-political comedy at San Francisco Sketchfest, Bridgetown Comedy Festival, Boston Comedy Festival, Women in Comedy Festival and Chicago Funny Women Festival. She recently won Comedy Central Asia’s “Ultimate Comedy Challenge” and ON24’s virtual comedy competition. She has appeared on WGBH, KQED, and CBS. She is a favorite on NPR’s storytelling series “Snap Judgment.”
“The intense rivalry between India and Pakistan is exhilarating in a game of cricket but excruciating in daily life. Majority of people on both sides want to live peacefully but their voices are lost amidst the cacophony of narrow-minded, divisive people I like to call ‘relatives’,” says Samson, the world’s only Indian Jewish comedian who has performed at Muslim Community Centers, American Islamic College in Chicago, & MuslimFest in Toronto. “This show provides a platform for comedians from both countries to share their experiences & opinions.” Samson has entertained audiences with his cerebral, witty, thought-provoking, clean humor in India, Canada & U.S. and has been featured on NBC, CBS & NPR.
Joining Dhaya & Samson are comedians Shazia Mirza, a trained biochemist, born and educated in England, and daughter of Pakistani immigrants a winner at London Comedy Festival. Mona Shaikh, a Paki-Yorker & founder of MuslimsDoItBetter.com has been featured on BBC and Washington Post. Imran G has placed in the Giggles Comedy Competition and won Walk The Plank Comedy Competition.
