Tower Paddle Boards Brings Manufacturing Back to the US
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) August 05, 2013 -- Tower Paddle Boards hires renowned board shaper and 30-year surf veteran, Byron Olson to spearhead the launch of its new US SUP manufacturing facility in an industry dominated by overseas production. An estimated 98% of stand up paddle board production is done overseas in Asia. Under Olson's leadership as Director of Production and R&D, Tower Paddle Boards is building a 5,000 square-foot production facility in San Diego, CA to produce its new line of US-made stand up paddle boards. In addition to his experience on the water both in surfing and competitive racing, Olson has built a career shaping surf boards since 1981 and stand up paddle boards since 2003.
"Byron is one of, if not THE, best stand up paddle board craftsmen in the world. He's been producing cutting-edge custom stand up paddle boards for some of the biggest names in the SUP industry since 2003, before there even was a SUP industry", remarked Tower founder & CEO Stephan Aarstol.
Tower's initial line of US-made boards is expected to be introduced sometime this September. The first three models will feature carbon cross-link construction and are projected to sell at around $1000 direct-to-market. Comparable US-made carbon cross-link paddle boards currently retail anywhere from $1700 to $2500. The line will be separate from Tower's existing overseas line of clear-coat EPS/Epoxy construction boards, which Tower began selling in 2011.
"We're bringing manufacturing back to the US in a meaningful way. By adding our own US production facility, we're now going from buying raw inputs to building and directly selling the highest quality, craftsman finished paddle boards delivered right to your door. We're an end-to-end solution," explains Olson. "We can sell US-quality boards at substantially better pricing than comparable boards produced overseas. It’s a game changer."
About Tower Paddle Boards:
Tower (online at http://www.TowerPaddleBoards.com) is the manufacturer-direct stand up paddle board brand that was funded by billionaire Mark Cuban on ABC's Shark Tank in 2012. Tower intentionally forgoes the traditional surf/kayak distribution channel, which allows them to sell quality boards at roughly half the price of the competition.
