New Research Shows Sleep Disorders Apparent in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Holtorf Medical Adds Doctors To Help Patients
Torrance, CA (PRWEB) August 06, 2013 -- As Holtorf Medical strives to provide world-class medical attention to patients, new research will help Holtorf Medical help doctors treat chronic fatigue syndrome, or CFS. Holtorf Medical has added new doctors to help the influx of patients who suffer from CFS.
For many years, experts have claimed that chronic fatigue syndrome did not involve any sleep disorders—but only vague problems such as unfulfilled sleep. However, new research has uncovered that sleep problems are more identifiable. The new research also calls for routine screening for primary sleep disorders. Published by the Northumbria Centre for Sleep Research in Newcastle UK, doctors performed sleep studies for over 300 people who met the Fukuda definition of CFS. In their research, they found that nearly a third of these people had a primary sleep disorder that actually explained their symptoms. This study shows that these individuals were not really suffering from CFS, but from a sleep disorder. This 1/3 misdiagnosis rate is a huge reason for the medical field to look more closely at the way sleep disorders are treated.
In this study conducted and published by the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, and entitled, "Sleep Abnormalities in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis: A Review", researchers concluded that doctors treating CFS need to look more closely at diagnosing sleep problems before diagnosing CFS. With over ten expert doctors on the Holtorf Medical Group team, each doctor strives to ensure that each patient is getting the treatment that is perfect for each individual’s needs.
Dr. Kent Holtorf, medical director, says, “The Holtorf Medical Group is dedicated to understanding chronic fatigue syndrome. With this new research, we can more fully understand how sleep disorders are critical to understanding CFS. I have worked with thousands of patients, and I understand that treating CFS does not come in a cookie-cutter form. It can be only tackled with a dedicated medical professional that understands CFS—which is what we strive for at Holtorf.”
With five locations, and more doctors to serve patients, the Holtorf Medical Group can help any patient who may be suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome.
