Deadlines Can Be Used as a Tool to Boost Productivity, Find the Edge Expert Says in New Article
Manchester (PRWEB UK) 6 August 2013 -- Rigid deadlines can be used to increase an individual’s motivation and productivity, Chris Payne has said in a new article on Find the Edge.
He uses his post on the site to explain how deadlines should be embraced and harnessed, rather than feared. Payne uses the example of a newsletter he used to write and sell.
He said: “For the first two weeks of each month I was very busy writing sales copy, liaising with my team, running teleconference calls, organising joint ventures, and so on.”
“There was very little time to write and lay out a newsletter.”
“When it got to three days before my deadline I knew that I had to get the newsletter created. I had no time to think. I only had time to act. And each month I was able to email the newsletter to the printer in the nick of time.”
He explains that the pressure a looming deadline exerts can be the best motivator there is. Payne also suggests that working with strict deadlines allows business people to squeeze more from their jobs and time.
He said: “As I look back, I have a funny feeling that, if I hadn’t created all those issues, and achieved all that sales revenue, it’s likely that I wouldn’t have achieved anything more in another area of the business: my other work would have simply expanded into those 3 days I allocated.”
“Create an ambitious ‘stretch’ goal for yourself in your business – or even in your health.”
“Have a regular deadline that you can’t wiggle out of. No matter how challenging it may seem to meet that goal, go for it anyway: in most cases you’ll surprise and delight yourself.”

Kenny Goodman, founder of Find the Edge, said: “We all know that feeling when there’s a deadline approaching, and how much of a difference it can make to our motivation.”
“When there’s no other option – and no more wiggle room - we can become very productive indeed. Learning to harness deadlines can be a great skill.”
