Maponics Continues to Grow, Fills Newly Created Post of COO
White River Junction, Vermont (PRWEB) August 08, 2013 -- Maponics, a leader in geo-spatial data, today announced the appointment of Dan Adams to the company’s newly created post of Chief Operating Officer. Adams comes to Maponics from a long career at TomTom, a pioneer in navigational systems, where he served in a number of high-level positions, most recently as Vice President of Geospatial Sales.
The establishment of the COO position follows a recent period of unprecedented growth for Maponics, a period that saw the creation of two other executive positions and a 25% expansion of the overall workforce. “Given the maturity of the company and the fact that our product offerings are getting more diverse and deeper, it’s a natural evolution for us to strengthen our management team at this time,” said Maponics CEO Darrin Clement.
Clement said Adams brings to the post of COO extensive experience across multiple fronts including wide-ranging industry knowledge of navigation and GIS database management and services, operational management, business and product development, supplier management, business development and negotiations in all forms.
Adams, for his part, said he was drawn to Maponics because the company has “carved a really exciting niche within the GIS space and has a strong brand, excellent products and loyal customers.” With experience in organizational and leadership development, Adams trained, among other places, at the Tuck Executive Program at Dartmouth College. He sees his role as “articulating high standards, motivating people from shared success, and helping to put the pieces in place to grow in a smart, healthy and systematic way.” Moreover, he added, “Maponics has great ideas going forward. I want to be part of that.”
During his career, Adams garnered 17 years of experience in GIS markets, which included leadership positions at Geographic Data Technology, acquired by Tele Atlas, subsequently acquired by TomTom. There, he managed several aspects of organizational development, content operations, production and supply chain, with his most recent role in leading the global sales and marketing staff for GIS, with revenues totaling more than 40 million euros. He earned his BA in English from the University of New Hampshire, and lives in nearby Grantham, NH with his wife. Adams noted that his office at Maponics is “50 to 100 yards” from where his grandfather, a worker on the local railroad, ate his daily lunch many years before the high-tech industry came to the area. As for his current job, Adams says, “I think my grandfather would have found it pretty cool.”
