Boston Networks deploy new Wireless LAN, robust CCTV Control room upgrade and a bespoke Maintenance solution for the University of Strathclyde
Glasgow, UK (PRWEB UK) 14 August 2013 -- With over 18,000 full-time and part-time students: 12,000 undergraduates and 6,000 postgraduates, the University of Strathclyde is Scotland's third largest university. Characterised by its innovative approach and flexible learning, the institution was named UK University of the Year 2012/2013 in the Times Higher Education Awards.
Home to students and staff from over 100 countries, the University’s city-centre John Anderson Campus contains a student village right in the heart of Glasgow.
The unique, city centre campus is monitored by more than 150 CCTV cameras. To effectively manage the surveillance across the entire campus and to ensure it has both a robust and future-proof solution, the University embarked on a complete refurbishment of its CCTV control room.
Boston Networks designed a solution to enhance the University’s security operations and to effectively safeguard its students, staff and campus. To maximise the University’s investment in its existing hardware, Boston Networks fixed all the legacy analogue cameras with digital encoders and introduced new IP cameras, where required.
Furthermore, with the deployment of a sophisticated video management system (VMS) and vast, expandable video wall, the new control room is now able to simply manage all of the campus’s security footage and eliminate the need to run disparate systems. Scalable enough to accommodate thousands of HD and/or megapixel cameras and providing cost-effective recording and storage the new control room solution:
• Centralises the management of critical footage
• Guarantee around-the-clock monitoring and unwavering reliability
• Enhances operational flexibility
• Facilitates integration to critical applications
Boston Networks has also completed a wireless LAN deployment, to dramatically enhance the wireless access throughout the student village, which, during term time, is home to over 2000 students.
Boston Networks designed a highly secure wireless network, granting all students residing on campus ubiquitous wireless access. Making high speed wireless connectivity available in every student room will allow students to easily access the University networks and resources, research projects and, overall, greatly enhance their educational experience. Moreover, a highly robust and scalable point-to-point wireless network will be deployed between two of the University’s key buildings, delivering enhanced flows of communication for the faculty and further facilitating collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Additionally, Boston Networks now maintains the University’s entire CCTV estate, guaranteeing seamless surveillance operations, 24/7. The bespoke Maintenance package encompasses all CCTV hardware, software and central control equipment and provides the University with:
• 24/7 technical support
• Full time on site attendance
• Rapid replacement of hardware and software failures
