Retina Rounds: Diabetic Macular Edema - Continuing Medical Education Series
Austin, Texas (PRWEB) August 20, 2013 -- Spire Learning and Wills Eye Hospital are pleased to announce a live Continuing Medical Education (CME) dinner series titled, “Retina Rounds: Diabetic Macular Edema.” This complimentary live educational activity consists of no lectures or slides, just case-based discussions with a small group of your colleagues and a retinal disease expert. The meetings will be held throughout the United States in late 2013, and are designed to provide retina specialists and comprehensive ophthalmologists the opportunity to share their clinical expertise and challenges in diabetic macular edema (DME) management.
At the conclusion of the educational activity, participants should be better able to:
• Recognize medications commonly used by individuals with diabetes that have beneficial or deleterious effects on diabetic retinopathy or diabetic macular edema progression
• Discuss with patients how poorly controlled blood glucose and other comorbidities contribute to diabetic retinopathy progression
• Use strategies to improve communication with patients’ primary care physicians and/or endocrinologists
• Describe efficacy and safety data results from clinical trials investigating available and emerging therapies from DME
• Identify management strategies for their patients with DME based on associated risks and benefits and on patient factors, including visual acuity and retinal disease severity
• Assess and monitor patient factors that may potentially increase their risk for ocular and/or systemic complications after receiving intravitreal injections
• Evaluate patient factors including changes in visual acuity and retinal thickness to measure their treatment response and adjust their management plans if needed
