Sex, Tech and Intimacy Addiction Experts Robert Weiss and Dr. Stefanie Carnes Host Professionals Workshop in Kansas City
Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) August 27, 2013 -- Elements Behavioral Health invites mental health and addiction professionals to a daylong training on the assessment and treatment of sexual addiction in the digital age. “Sexual Addiction: Effective Assessment, Diagnosis and Treatment for the Addict and Spouse” will take place on September 20, 2013, from 8:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown.
Professionals are invited to join internationally known sex, technology and addiction specialists Robert Weiss, LCSW, CSAT-S, and Stefanie Carnes, PhD, CSAT-S, for an in-depth course on sexual addiction, Internet porn and the evolution of sex/tech and their relationship to adult problems with mental health, addiction, intimacy and adult sexuality.
Sex addiction has been a particularly hot topic in recent months. This summer, Mr. Weiss has been in constant demand by the media, addressing questions about the political sex scandals surrounding former congressman Anthony Weiner and San Diego Mayor Bob Filner for the San Diego Union Tribune, NBC News, The Wall Street Journal and other premier news outlets.
The professional workshop will be divided into two sessions. Session 1, titled “Sex Addiction 101,” will explore common behaviors and problems encountered by sex addicts, recovery from multiple addictions, and the influence of technology on sex, porn and relationship addiction. Session 2, titled “Mending Shattered Hearts: Helping Families Heal from the Impact of Sexual Addiction,” will focus on typical response patterns of families and therapeutic techniques for assisting partners and children with the trauma of sexual addiction. The speakers will then encourage open discussion of the questions most often asked by professionals and the media related to the treatment of sexual addicts as well as their spouses and partners.
“Sexual addiction as a diagnosis is often misunderstood, even ridiculed and/or misappropriated, sometimes by well-meaning but undertrained clinicians,” said Mr. Weiss. “This daylong event focused on the basics of sexual addiction diagnosis and treatment – both the myths and the realties – will help clinicians more effectively work with problem sexual behavior as well as the resulting chaos of broken spousal and family relationships.”
Registration for the workshop costs $75. Seating is limited so register early. Lunch is included, and attendees may earn six CEUs. To attend, visit the Elements Behavioral Health events page or contact Jeanette Lisalda at (866) 825-1104 or jlisalda(at)theelements(dot)com.
