If you can make your business something that has deep meaning in your life, I think you’ll step in to do great things.
Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) August 19, 2013
Neil Grimmer, who has led Plum Organics to become one of the fastest-growing U.S. food brands for babies, toddlers and kids, shares his insights on product development in “Passion Incorporated”, the newest installment of the Kauffman Sketchbook video series released today by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, a private, nonpartisan foundation that aims to foster economic independence by advancing educational achievement and entrepreneurial success.
Before he was an entrepreneur, Grimmer was an artist and designer. He started down the entrepreneurial path when he and his wife, Tana, were looking for nutritious food for their daughters. Their mission soon grew beyond their own family to bring healthy, organic food to every high chair and lunchbox in America.
“If you can make your business something that has deep meaning in your life, I think you’ll step in to do great things,” Grimmer says.
During the three-minute animated video, Grimmer, president and co-founder of Plum Organics, explains how entrepreneurs can apply the principles of design thinking to develop a new product, business or entire industry.
“The design-thinking process is about learning the skill of observation and insight through empathy,” Grimmer says. “What are those opportunities that come out of that need, want and desire that I can use as a platform for creating a new product, for creating a new business? Then, once you’re at that idea stage, it’s all about rapid prototyping; you’re honing in on what your idea could be, next it’s about bringing it to life.”
The release of the Kauffman Sketchbook featuring Neil Grimmer coincides with the publication of the 2013 Inc. 500/5000 list, Inc. magazine’s annual ranking of America’s fastest-growing privately held companies that is based on a three-year growth rate from 2009 to 2012. Plum Organics is anticipated to make the Inc. 500 list for the third consecutive year.
