3Play Media Launches YouTube Captioning Site YoutubeCaptions.com
Cambridge, MA (PRWEB) August 22, 2013 -- 3Play Media, a company offering captioning, transcription, and translation, announced today it has launched YoutubeCaptions.com – a web-based service that integrates with YouTube to add professional closed captions for better SEO and accessibility compliance.
YoutubeCaptions.com lets channel owners sign in with their YouTube credentials and select which videos to caption. YoutubeCaptions.com creates the captions using professional transcriptionists, and automatically adds them to YouTube within hours.
As YouTube shifts from user generated video to higher quality content for entertainment and education, video captioning becomes increasingly important. Since search engines are fueled by text, captions enable YouTube and other search engines to better understand the video content, resulting in higher page rank and more views. Captions pick up the slack where the video title, description, and tags fail to provide enough detail.
Captions are required by law for many government and educational videos, as well as videos that previously aired on television, even if they have been edited. The 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act of 2010 (CVAA) designates the copyright owner – typically the YouTube channel manager – responsible for adding captions. Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) also requires captioning for any commercial organization that functions as a place of public accommodation. These laws were enacted to provide equal access for the 48 million people in the U.S. who are deaf or hard of hearing.
While YouTube's auto captioning is a valuable feature, the excessive errors make the captions inadequate for accessibility compliance and unusable for search indexing. For this reason, neither YouTube nor Google incorporate the auto captions into their search algorithms.
Powered by more than 400 professional transcriptionists, YoutubeCaptions.com produces premium quality captions for YouTube that are more than 99% accurate, even in cases of heavy accents, technical content, or multiple speakers.
"YouTube provides great resources for captioning, but if you have lots of videos, it's a laborious, manual process," said Chris Antunes, VP of Operations at 3Play Media. "Our integration with YouTube provides a streamlined, cost-effective solution that not only satisfies accessibility requirements, but also makes the videos more likely to appear in search results."
