Motivation is the key aspect behind long lasting weight loss. The desire to lose weight is usually based on a short-term goal, it is all too common for people to report that they put back on all the weight they lost.

The report highlights that when people start thinking about going on a diet, they agonise over the decision about which diet to choose, 5:2, Dukan, Low GI, Low GL or calorie counting to name just a few.
Part of the decision process is trying to work out which is the best diet when it comes to losing weight. However, they site some new research, published on August 21st, that suggests that in reality, for those people wanting to lose weight, they should stop focusing on which fad diet to choose and simply put all their energies into making changes in lifestyle.
By using weight loss hypnotherapy the Surrey Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy believes they can help people make the lifestyle changes that are needed to achieve and maintain weight loss. It not only helps people to make the initial behavioural change, but because the changes are made at a subconscious level, they tend to have much more longevity. This allows weight loss clients to get used to the new behaviours and after a while they become normal behaviours.
Paul White, the behavioural change specialist at the Surrey Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy and former Chairman of the National Council for Hypnotherapy, said, “Motivation is the key aspect behind long lasting weight loss. The desire to lose weight is usually based on a short-term goal such as losing weight for a holiday or a wedding, especially as it is all too common for people to report that they put back on all they lose and more, which means they lose all the advances they have made. This is very de-motivating and does not bode well for the coming years.”
“Contrast that with a recent client that we had been working with for a while to change behaviours that said ‘Back from holiday, first thing I did was jump on the scales (and no they didn’t break!). Surprisingly lost 2lb, not sure how but I’m not complaining!’ This sort of statement is not unusual when clients use our hypnotherapy for weight loss programme. Because the change is in their thought processes and mental responses and this causes changes in their behaviours.”
At the Surrey Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy in Surrey, they seek to change their clients’ association with food. The hypnotherapist will work with the client to change the way they relate to food, even the way they think about food, so they can start to eat to live, rather than live to eat. By doing so they get rid of the guilt, lessen the food intake and in general allow the client to feel happier around food. This generally leads to significant weight loss and long lasting change.
