Special Learning Inc., the leading global provider of mobile technology applications and educational resources for the special needs community, announced today its newest line of educational products for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities. The world-wide supplier of comprehensive solutions for the special needs community is unveiling twelve new social story teaching kits, designed to teach social skills to individuals with special needs. Each comprehensive kit contains a social story, social rule cards, full instructional guide and other teaching tools that provide individuals with a platform of learning opportunity to promote social growth and independence.

“Special Learning is committed to developing comprehensive teaching products to build foundational skills in children with special needs,” said Karen Chung, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Special Learning. “Our unique social story teaching kits provide parents, providers and educators with a complete set of tools that can be used together to foster social growth and independence.”

Social stories are short illustrated books that help teach individuals, affected by ASD and other developmental disabilities, the specific social "rules" or "norms" that are generally accepted in society. Titles cover skills from basic social greetings to self-help skills and school readiness skills. Each simplified story helps individuals with ASD and other developmental disabilities understand how to respond to life events and learn to communicate effectively.

In addition, Special Learning has developed complimentary teaching tools that will reinforce skills taught within each story. A complete instructional guide, written by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) provides the basis for using Special Learning social stories and these additional teaching tools in the most effective manner possible to achieve success for the individual.

Each social story teaching kit includes:

  •     Colorful story book
  •     Coloring book
  •     Set of social rule cards
  •     Full instructional guide

With the release of this new product, Special Learning, Inc. continues its mission to make a positive impact in the lives of those individuals affected by ASD, Down syndrome, and other developmental disabilities around the globe.
