Jeffrey Toobin Joins Gateway Public Schools for the 2013 Matters of the Mind Luncheon
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) August 16, 2013 -- CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin will join Gateway Public Schools for the 11th Annual Matters of the Mind Luncheon, on Thursday, October 17, 2013, at Gateway High School in San Francisco’s Western Addition in support of Gateway Public Schools’ fundraising efforts.
“Jeffrey Toobin was a natural choice for Gateway because of his belief in the powerful role institutions play in social change,” said Executive Director Sharon Olken. “Education, like our justice system, is a vehicle of change worth our highest critical thinking because it has the capability of literally transforming lives.”
Mr. Toobin will speak at the Luncheon following a mid-morning VIP reception and presentation by Gateway students from both the middle and high schools. Gateway Public Schools has served the San Francisco community since 1998 with a mission to prepare college-bound learners regardless of race, income, or learning style. More than 96% of Gateway High School graduates have gone on to colleges across the country and the world (double the statewide rate).
Mr. Toobin is an award-winning author and celebrated modern-day historian. His most recent book The Nine: Inside the Secret World of the Supreme Court topped the New York Times Best Seller list for four straight months, garnered him an award from Harvard's Nieman Foundation for Journalism, and was named one of the best books of the year by Time, Newsweek, Entertainment Weekly and the Economist. A prolific writer for The New Yorker since 1993, Mr. Toobin also serves as CNN's worldwide legal analyst. His keen insight into the current events is an asset on which viewers have come to rely. He joined CNN from ABC News where he covered the OJ Simpson trial, and won an Emmy for his work.
