New Book Release Combining Work of 11 Scholars, Philip Roth – The Continuing Presence
Newark, NJ (PRWEB) February 06, 2014 -- Philip Roth – The Continuing Presence: New Essays on Psychological Themes, by Jane Statlander-Slote, released in hardcover February 2014, is a groundbreaking psychoanalytically-themed collection of essays that explores the greatly ignored and suppressed discussions of Philip Roth the man, and his work.
Statlander-Slote has written a number of books on Roth and others, and, as a filmmaker as well, has produced an in-depth documentary about Philip Roth. This volume contains a compelling collection of heretofore never published essays by the most internationally eminent Roth scholars.
Philip Roth – The Continuing Presence: New Essays on Psychological Themes also includes a short biography and a comprehensive bibliography of Philip Roth’s works as well as works written about him, including interviews, all very generously contributed by the Philip Roth Society.
Some of the volume’s essays relate to Roth’s psychoanalyst, Dr. Hans Kleinschmidt, who, as Jeffrey Berman reveals, breached doctor-patient confidentiality through ultimately recognizable descriptions of Roth and the psychoanalytical sessions of Roth the analysee and Kleinschmidt the analyst. Kleinschmidt later published some of the key traumatic experiences Roth revealed to him in the American psychoanalytical journal, Imago established by Sigmund Freud. It is in this Kleinschmidt essay that is contained some of the central psychoanalytical keys to Roth's life and work.
Statlander-Slote, like Roth, was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey and, also like Roth, attended Weequahic High School. She is a Professor of English and filmmaker. The other contributors, Roth scholars as well, teach at various American universities and also publish books on a variety of subjects in American literature and psychologically based themes.
The book is distributed by Cardinal Publishers Group, Indianapolis, IN., and is presently available in hardcover and eBook format. http://www.cardinalpub.com
