Renewable Choice Energy Announces Partnership with Hypertherm
Boulder, CO (PRWEB) March 11, 2014 -- Renewable Choice Energy today announced that Hypertherm Inc., a New Hampshire manufacturer of plasma, laser, and waterjet cutting systems, has purchased green power from the Boulder firm to offset 100% of the company’s electricity consumption in the United States. In total, the company has purchased more than 18 million kilowatt hours of renewable energy credits (RECs) from Renewable Choice for 2014. The purchase was established and is managed through the assistance of Maine-based consultant Competitive Energy Services.
In 2013, Hypertherm became an EPA Green Power Partner and additionally qualified for the Green Power Leadership Club, one of only six companies nationwide from the “Industrial Goods and Services” sector.
A fundamental value of the company is corporate social responsibility. “We believe every company has an obligation to enrich the community and the environment in which it does business,” said Jenny Levy, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility at Hypertherm. “Purchasing green power to offset our electricity use is an integral part of our environmental stewardship strategy, and we’re delighted to work with Renewable Choice.”
Part of Hypertherm’s environmental strategy is to halve the company’s carbon impact and to improve the energy efficiency of the business by 30% by 2020. A cross-organizational working group has already saved 2,000,000 kWh from conservation projects over the last two years.
RECs are the way that green power is tracked and traded in North America and are used by thousands of U.S. and Canadian organizations, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, to decrease environmental impact. The RECs purchased by Hypertherm are certified by Green-e Energy, the nation’s leading certification program for renewable energy. This is the second year the company has purchased RECs from Renewable Choice.
“We are honored to continue our partnership with Hypertherm for another year,” said Stephen Beam, Director of Business Development at Renewable Choice. “As a leader in their market, Hypertherm’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement is progressive and we applaud their goals to minimize environmental impact in all areas of their business.”
