Kay Morgan Kicks Off Campaign for Judge of the 55th Civil District Court with Fundraiser
Houston, Texas (PRWEB) March 12, 2014 -- Houston-based attorney Kay Morgan kicked off her 2014 campaign for Judge of the 55th Civil District Court with a fundraising event in the Montrose area.
Guests and supporters of Morgan were on hand at Canopy, a well-known farm-to-table restaurant, located on Montrose Boulevard. Amber Mostyn of Mostyn Law was on hand to introduce Kay to supporters and donors. The event lasted from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and featured Morgan discussing what she will bring to the bench.
“It’s exciting to push forward and get to work,” Morgan said in preparation for the event. “I know what attorneys and everyday people go through trying to seek justice from our system. Once on the bench, I will be dedicated to giving everyone the same chance to be heard.”
Morgan is a proud member of the Harris County Democratic Party and will be campaigning for the bench as a Democrat. She has long championed women’s rights and more equitable treatment for all Texans. Morgan has been a practicing attorney in Texas for more than 30 years with a diverse legal background practicing in commercial business litigation, securities, contracts, oil and gas, consumer law, fraud, general negligence, personal injury, product liability, and insurance.
“Any experienced lawyer can recognize a good judge,” Morgan said. “Unfortunately, there aren’t enough to go around. A good judge should be prepared enough to understand a case, they need to be patient in allowing each side to present their arguments. A good judge needs to be impartial and weigh each issue in accordance with the law. And of course, all this needs to be managed in a timely manner so people can get on with their lives. None of this is new, it’s simply about treating people with dignity and respect.”
Morgan says her extensive legal career has prepared her to be a civic minded judge and responsible to the laws of the state. She believes the diversity of her legal experience gives her the ability to try the range of cases that confront Civil District Court Judges. But most important, Morgan says, are her ties to Harris County that have instilled a strong commitment to community.
“The entirety of my legal career has been spent in Houston and Harris County,” Morgan said. “I hope to win this election because I want to serve the community that has been so good to me.”
