Big Grass Expands Decorative Ong™ Rainwater Harvesting Collection Amid Nationwide Push for Water Conservation
San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) April 07, 2014 -- Big Grass, the largest provider of sustainable home and garden décor in Texas, has expanded its Ong™ jar rainwater harvesting collection to meet the growing demand for water conservation solutions and alternatives to conventional plastic and metal collection vessels.
“Water harvested from rainfall or AC condensation conserves and replaces increasingly precious groundwater resources while easing demand on municipal storm water systems,” said John Hanesworth, co-owner of Big Grass. “As regulations and incentives to conserve water increase, the public is seeking harvesting options that are both functional and aesthetically appealing.”
Big Grass is rolling out its 115-gallon Mini Ong™ to wholesale and retail customers nationwide, providing newcomers to rainwater harvesting a stylish catchment option with a small footprint. The Mini Ong™ complements Big Grass’ existing 160- and 450-gallon Ong™ jars designed to collect rainwater from larger roof sections and air conditioning units. All Ong™ jars can be integrated into larger catchment systems.
Handmade in Thailand from durable cement, Ong™ jars have been used for centuries in South Asia to collect rainwater in times of drought. They remain a staple of daily life in many rural communities and are still used for household water collection and drinking water.
Big Grass works directly with producers in Thailand and is the only U.S. source for Ong™ jars. Since 2005, Big Grass has sold hundreds of Ong™ jars in drought-prone South Texas and other parts of the country.
“Ong™ jars are popular among both retail customers and landscape designers,” Hanesworth said. “In addition to their ease of use, they add long-lasting style to outdoor spaces unlike various plastic containers that become brittle with prolonged exposure to sunlight, or metal containers that are difficult to conceal.”
Big Grass custom stains and seals the Ong™ jars, and each vessel comes with hose faucet fittings, drain plugs, and galvanized or decorative hardwood tops for customized downspout penetration.
To further extend the availability of Ong™ jars, Big Grass has launched a new “Partner Program” for garden centers and other retailers. As part of the program, retailers buy a Mini Ong™ for a discounted price to display in their business, and Big Grass then drop-ships customer orders from its warehouse in Texas.
