Gaming Project to Educate Kids About Diabetes
Auckland, New Zealand (PRWEB) April 14, 2014 -- The world’s first global children’s healthcare brand is at it again with another innovative move forward. Medikidz LTD is teaming up with Media Design School in New Zealand to develop a one-of-a-kind gaming experience.
This amazing partnership will bring Medikidz’s larger than life superhero team on an all-new adventure inside the human body to explore Type 1 Diabetes in a way they never have before; a video game!
“We are thrilled about the prospect of working with Media Design School on this project,” said Medikidz Co-Founder and CEO Dr. Kim Chillman-Blair. “Video games are the logical next step for us, as we continue to create our global community of informed young people, and when it comes to the game design, we couldn’t be happier to be working with the school.”
Media Design School brings considerable technical, creative and industry expertise to the project. The award-winning training provider specializes in game development qualifications and has a talented group of third year students eager to get stared.
“Video games play a huge role in modern entertainment and, due to their interactive nature, they communicate far more effectively than any narrative based media,” said Media Design School Game Art Lecturer Ivan Khmel. “Our ultimate goal with this project is to expand understanding beyond those directly affected by various medical conditions and make the information accessible to the wider public.”
Media Design School Head of Game Art Mike Porter knows first-hand how difficult it can be for young people and their families to understand medical diagnoses. Both of his children were diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at a young age and struggled to digest the clinical information given to them.
“After seeing the work that Medikidz have already done through their incredible comic books, I knew it was something Media Design School could get behind. Through games we have an opportunity to help thousands of people understand very complicated information and, most importantly, help them through a difficult time in their lives.”
“We are all excited to apply our talents beyond the classroom, to a cause that will have a positive impact on a global stage. Games are a perfect platform for engaging people of all ages, and can create experiences that resonate with people. Taking inspiration from the innovative approach to education Medikidz has taken, we aim to create a game that can similarly impart valuable knowledge through the gameplay experience,” said Media Design School student Maxc Teinangaro.
This exciting partnership is the next successful step for Medikidz, who recently opened their US office in New York City after successfully distributing over 3 million copies of the Medikidz graphic novel series worldwide and launching their first app for iOS and Android.
