Desi Networks, LLC, the company behind the .desi generic top-level domain (gTLD), has announced that it has just entered into a formal registrar agreement with online brand protection expert IP Mirror. Through this relationship Desi Networks looks to grow its footprint in the region and ensure trademark protection and data security for its registrants.

“IP Mirror was a natural fit for us based on their focus in Asia and extensive experience with trademark protection,” said Ravin Ohri, CEO. The focus of .desi is the global diaspora and emerging markets within the Indian Subcontinent. “With a .desi domain name, brands will be able to signal their commitment to the desi community and be able to differentiate themselves from more generic strings.”

“desi” is derived from Sanskrit and refers to the culture, people and products originating from the Indian sub-continent (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka). It immediately evokes a sense of identity and community among the more than 1.5 billion people around the globe.
