During Rosacea Awareness Month, it is important for rosacea patients to know that treatment options are available in order to improve their appearance and quality of life.

April was designated Rosacea Awareness Month by the National Rosacea Society in order to promote awareness about the skin condition that affects over 16 million people in the United States alone. Dermatology experts such as Dr. William Groff of Cosmetic Laser Dermatology in San Diego are using the month of April to highlight the prevalence of rosacea and the most effective treatment methods.

Rosacea is a chronic skin problem that is usually seen in people over the age of 30 who have fair skin. The most common signs of rosacea are persistent flushing and redness,” explained Dr. Groff.

It is important for people to understand the signs of rosacea, so they can seek medical attention if one or more of these symptoms occur. Other signs that a person may have rosacea include:

  •     Bumps or acne
  •     Visible Blood Vessels
  •     Eye Irritation
  •     Stinging Sensations
  •     Skin Thickening

“There are several triggers that can cause a flare up of rosacea. Patients who suspect they may have rosacea should avoid excessive alcohol, caffeine, hot or spicy food, heat, sun exposure, and stress,” stated Dr. Groff.

While there is currently no cure for rosacea since the cause is still unknown, there are several safe and effective treatment options in order to manage the symptoms of rosacea. At Cosmetic Laser Dermatology in San Diego, Dr. Groff utilizes the innovative VBeam Perfecta and IPL Photofacial laser treatments to reduce the redness associated with rosacea.

“During Rosacea Awareness Month, it is important for rosacea patients to know that treatment options are available in order to improve their appearance and quality of life. For the most ideal rosacea treatments, it is best that patients visit a board-certified dermatologist,” stated Dr. Groff.
