Sierra College Natural History Museum Presents Hetch Hetchy: Can the Splendid Wild Return? Friday, May 16, 2014
Rocklin, CA (PRWEB) April 27, 2014 -- On Friday, May 16, at 7:30 pm in the Dietrich Theater on the Rocklin Campus, Sierra College Natural History Museum and Sierra College Press are cosponsoring a lively lecture and discussion on the future of Hetch Hetchy Valley in Yosemite National Park. Dammed by the City of San Francisco for water and power, the project has remained contentious since its authorization in 1913. One hundred years later the argument continues – that a public works project does not belong in a national park.
Join Heyday Publisher Malcolm Margolin, author Kenneth Brower, John Muir's great-great-grandson Robert Hanna, Sierra College Professor Emeritus Joe Medeiros and Restore Hetch Hetchy Executive Director Spreck Rosekrans in an illustrated lecture and discussion about America's famous Hetch Hetchy Valley – and the movement to restore it within the park.
Hetch Hetchy—Undoing a Great American Mistake by Kenneth Brower (Heyday, 2013) examines the stunning engineering feat as well as the heartbreak of the damming of Hetch Hetchy Valley. The book resurrects the possibility of decommissioning of O'Shaughnessy Dam restoring Yosemite's twin valley. Can it be done? If so, how can it be done so San Franciscans and other Bay Area users can continue to receive their essential water and power?
Join this group of authors, publishers and experts in this one-of-a-kind look at a plausible dream to restore Hetch Hetchy Valley in Yosemite National Park.
