Hundreds of English-language students will become international football stars for the evening when they represent their countries on the hallowed turf of a Premier League pitch for the Kaplan Cup.

Kaplan International English, a leading provider of English language courses, has established the inaugural Kaplan Cup, an international football tournament to be hosted at Upton Park, West Ham United’s football stadium in London on May 17th.

Male and female students from Kaplan’s 12 schools in the UK and Ireland will follow in the footsteps of their Premier League idols as they play for their countries in single-sex 5-a-side tournaments inside the legendary 35,000-seater stadium.

Students from more than 20 nationalities were selected to play and were notified via a special video draw. BBC commentator and presenter Mark Scott will compère proceedings in front of an expected audience of hundreds of spectators.

Martin Hofschroer, Kaplan’s content strategist, said: “We can’t wait to provide a really special evening for our students. With so many international students from different nationalities, we thought this summer was an ideal time to organize a football tournament ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Rio.

“I look forward to seeing the winners lift the Kaplan Cup trophy under the Upton Park floodlights. Learning with Kaplan isn’t just about lessons in a classroom, it’s a life experience.”

The inaugural Kaplan Cup has been established in association with Kick It Out, football’s equality and inclusion campaign.

Dean Watson, Grassroots Development Officer at Kick It Out, said: “Kick It Out is happy to support the Kaplan Cup. Sport and education have a pivotal role to play in promoting equality and inclusion. This is a positive event that helps to show that football truly is for everyone.”

The Kaplan Cup takes place between 18:00-22:00 at Upton Park, Green St, London E13 9AZ. For post-tournament photos, videos and results, visit
