The Huguette Clark Family Fund Announces its First Grants
New York, NY (PRWEB) May 19, 2014 -- The Huguette Clark Family Fund for Protection of Elders has made its first pair of grants totaling $51,000 to combat the growing national problem of elder abuse. The two grantees, the San Diego State University Research Foundation and the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging, are both leaders in the fight to recognize, prevent and rectify elder abuse in the United States.
The Fund’s first grant will provide much-needed training for Adult Protective Service (APS) workers. A grant of $26,000 to the SDSU Research Foundation’s Academy for Professional Excellence will make online courses on financial exploitation and undue influence accessible to APS workers.
A second grant will assist investigations of financial elder abuse. A grant of $25,000 was made to the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging to help banks implement federal guidelines for sharing customer information with investigatory agencies in cases of suspected financial exploitation of the elderly.
About the Huguette Clark Family Fund
The Huguette Clark Family Fund for Protection of Elders is a donor advised fund created by members of the Clark Family to honor their aunt, who died in 2012. The Fund is operated by The New York Community Trust, one of the oldest and largest community foundations in the United States.
The Fund supports innovative organizations and programs that seek new strategies to fight the financial abuse of elders, which frequently includes emotional and psychological manipulation by the professionals and institutions entrusted with their care. The Clark Family seeks to make grants to organizations that address immediate needs overlooked by traditional programs, or develop effective models to fight elder abuse that can be replicated nationwide.
