Gallardo and Lamas Periodontics and Implant Dentistry is excited to bring the Pinhole Surgical Technique to their Miami office. Over the past year, Dr. Gallardo and Dr. Lamas, have undergone extensive training with the cutting-edge procedure. Now available to all of their patients, the Pinhole Surgical Technique is unique in its noninvasive treatment of exposed roots.

The innovative procedure is designed to restore the gumline without surgery. The treatment consists of several pin-size holes placed along the gums, followed by the insertion of a special instrument used to pull down the gum tissue. Very small collagen strips are placed through this space, holding the tissue in position and encouraging naturally healthy gums. The simple procedure requires no downtime.

The Pinhole Surgical Technique was developed in 2013 by Californian dentist, Dr. John Chao. It is the only available nonsurgical option for gum recession. Currently, less than 100 dentists worldwide have been certified to provide the Pinhole Surgical Technique.

For many years, the only successful treatment for exposed roots required invasive surgery. Gum grafting is painful, as donor tissue is taken from the roof of the mouth then sutured to the existing gumline. The procedure is also slow; gum surgery can only be performed on two to three teeth at one time.

A receding gumline is very serious. Dr. Lamas explains, “The root structure of the tooth does not have the protective coating found on the crown (lower portion of the tooth). Having these exposed can run into problems such as cavities, erosion, root canals, and a loss of teeth.” The Pinhole Surgical Technique provides a fast, painless way to help patients with this longstanding problem.

Gallardo and Lamas Periodontics and Implant Dentistry was founded in 1994. Located in the heart of Miami, the group is designed to bring patients advanced dental treatments in a comfortable, secure setting.
