Trauma Specialists LLP Announces New Strategic Trauma Medical Director
Portland, OR (PRWEB) May 22, 2014 -- Trauma Specialists LLP would like to announce cardio thoracic and vascular surgeon, Dr. Riyad Karmy-Jones, as the new Trauma Clinical Medical Director. For more than 30 years, Dr. William B. Long has served as medical director of Trauma Specialists. Dr. Long is now transitioning to Strategic Trauma Medical Director, a new role in which Dr. Long will continue to educate and advocate for the betterment of trauma surgery throughout the state of Oregon.
Formerly as medical director, Dr. Long coordinated eight specialties in the management of the most severely injured trauma patients at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center. Over the course of his career he has written more than one hundred-thirty publications and numerous book chapters. He also holds several patents for medical devices that have been developed and tested through the Legacy Research Institute.
In his new part-time role as Strategic Trauma Medical Director, Dr. Long will continue to advocate for the betterment of trauma care in Oregon. This role will enable him to expand his outreach education and continuous quality improvement (CQI) for rural hospitals in Oregon and Washington.
“By focusing solely on advocacy and outreach I will be able to deepen partnerships throughout the Northwest,” said Dr. Long.
Dr. Karmy-Jones has nearly 20 years of medical experience as a surgeon, educator and administrative leader. Recently he was awarded the 2013 American Board of Cardiology of Excellence and designation as laureate of the American Board of Cardiology. His research was named one of the Top 5 most influential thoracic endovascular repair (TEVAR) articles of 2011 by Endovascular Today magazine. He is consistently named “Top Doctor” in Portland Monthly and Washingtonian magazines, and as one of the “Best Doctor in America” by Best Doctors, Inc.
As the new Trauma Clinical Medical Director, he will embrace three strategic initiatives: trauma care excellence, education and outcome based research, and regional partnership.
