Program Director Invited to Germany’s Clute Institute in June
In June, Dr. Deborah Schreiber will be traveling to Munich, Germany to present her published work “Building Community Among Onsite And Virtual Faculty: Success Linked To Organizational Capability Profile For Distance Learning” at the Clute Institute International Academic Conference. Dr. Schreiber is Program Director of the Master’s of Arts in Education program and is a proponent of building community among onsite and virtual faculty of both traditional aged and adult learners.
Faculty Member Presents Paper at the National Achieving the Dream Conference
During February, Dr. James Hodges presented and discussed his work entitled “Transforming Classrooms, Colleges, and Communities through Cooperative Learning” at the National Achieving the Dream Conference in Orlando, FL. Dr. Hodges is a part-time faculty member in Trident’s Master’s of Arts in Education program. He earned his Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership and Training from Trident in 2013.
Dean of Health Sciences and College of Education Becomes VP of Health Association
Dr. Holly Orozco, Dean of the College of Health Sciences and the College of Education, has been nominated for and accepted the position of Vice President for the Southern California Public Health Association (SCPHA). The SCPHA is an affiliate member of the American Public Health Association, which is a Washington, D.C.-based professional organization for public health professionals in the United States that was founded in 1872. The SCPHA promotes individual and community health through public health leadership from respected professionals within the field across southern California.
Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences Program Begins CEPH Accreditation Process
Trident’s College of Health Sciences has begun the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accreditation process for its Bachelor’s of Public Health degree program. The process, spearheaded by Dean Orozco and the Program Director, Dr. Patricia Rhynders, is a path to a respected accreditation, one that has many benefits for the University and its community, including enhanced employment opportunities for graduates, a mark of distinction for the program, and for the greater public, it promotes health and safety by assuring competent public health professionals.
Professor Presents at the American Anthropological Association Annual Meeting
Dr. Kate Masley, a part-time faculty member in Trident’s BSHS program, recently presented her paper "Navigating Blurred Roles in Ethnographic Fieldwork” at the American Anthropological Association Annual Meeting this past November in Chicago. Her professional expertise is in medical anthropology.

Trident Becomes Member School of ISACA
ISACA, a non-profit, independent association that advocates for professionals trained and employed in information security, assurance, risk management, and governance, recently formalized and approved Trident’s membership. Through this membership, the University has the opportunity to access and utilize teaching materials, such as the security framework guide COBIT, and promote networking opportunities that are relevant to students interested in careers in one of these fields.
Faculty Member Invited to Join Computer Science Assessment Body
Dr. Indira Guzman, Program Director of College of Information Systems, has been offered membership on the CS2013 Assessment Examination Council of the Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals (ICCP). As part of her involvement with the Council, she will be actively involved in the development of a high quality exam that computer science programs will utilize to benchmark themselves against the 2013 Computer Science Model Curriculum.
Trident Aligns Itself with National Center for Women & Information Technology
In an effort to provide a wide range of opportunities to its diverse student population, Trident has become a member of the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT). Building the Trident chapter is currently in progress and the key driver of this partnership, Dr. Indira Guzman, sees this as a way for women enrolled in Information Science programs to mentor and be mentored, collaborate with one another, and finish their degree with a strong professional network. Dr. Guzman was recently in attendance at the 2014 NCWIT Summit on Women and IT in Newport Beach, CA from May 19th-21st.
Professor to Present Paper at Information Systems Conference in Singapore
Dr. Indira Guzman and Dr. Michelle Kaarst-Brown have a research presentation slated for the Association for Computing Machinery and Special Interest Group Management Information Systems Computers and People Research Conference held in Singapore from May 29-31. Dr. Kaarst-Brown is an Associate Professor at Syracus University in Syracuse, NY.
Trident Ph.D. Student Part of Team Presenting Research at Security Conference
Current Trident Ph.D. Student Sanjeev Mitra, along with Dr. Indira Guzman, Dr. Kiet Tran, Adjunct Faculty Member in Trident’s College of Information Systems, and Dr. Gurpreet Dhillon of Virginia Commonwealth University are slated to present at the 13th Annual Security Conference scheduled for May 21-23, 2014 in Las Vegas, NV. The presentation is entitled: “A Quantitative Investigation of the Security Factors Affecting the Use Of IT/IS Systems in Public Networks.”
