Americans More Addicted to Credit Cards Than Chocolate, Pizza Or Beer, According to CardRatings.com
Foster City, Calif. (PRWEB) June 23, 2014 -- Credit cards are a staple of the United States economy, but a new survey from CardRatings.com reveals that they are even more engrained into society than common American novelties such as pizza, beer, chocolate and even sex.
The survey, conducted by Op4G for CardRatings.com – the leading comprehensive free source for comparing credit card offers – asked 2,000 Americans how long they could go without certain foods, drinks and activities, with the options of one day, one week, one month, one year or longer or I don’t do this.
Here are the percentages of people that said they couldn’t – or aren’t comfortable to – go more than one day without …:
• Drinking beer – 5.25 percent
• Eating pizza – 5.35 percent
• Eating chocolate – 11.05 percent
• Having sex – 13.0 percent
• Using your credit card – 14.9 percent
• Checking Facebook – 24.0 percent
• Watching television – 35.1 percent
• Using a cell phone – 57.3 percent
• Using a computer or tablet – 59.25 percent
“The results show that people are more connected to their devices than ever, but the credit card is still an important device in Americans’ financial lives,” said Amber Stubbs, managing editor of CardRatings.com.
While 43.85 percent of respondents said that they could go longer than a week without using their credit cards, more responded that they could abstain from pizza (68.3), chocolate (53.45), beer (46.35) and even sex (48.65). This begs the question: Are Americans addicted to their credit cards?
“With mobile payments and banking becoming more popular, consumers can use their credit cards everywhere it seems,” said Stubbs. “And according to Federal Reserve data they are, as credit card spending by consumers jumped by $8.8 billion in April.”
