Extensis Announces Support for SPECTRUM and VRA Core Standards in Portfolio Server; Makes Working with Metadata Easier for Museums and Cultural Heritage Institutions
Northampton, UK (PRWEB UK) 15 July 2014 -- Extensis announced today Portfolio Server now supports SPECTRUM and VRA Core, two key industry standards designed to make working with metadata easier for museums and cultural heritage institutions around the globe. Both standards provide a metadata framework for storing key information relevant to this sector.
By adding support for these standards, Portfolio Server makes available a comprehensive base of metadata fields. Users simply select and apply a standard to begin working with fields.

In addition to this, with Portfolio Server’s open API, institutions can integrate digital asset management (DAM) with existing Collections Management Systems (CMS) so metadata never has to be re-keyed into multiple systems. Extensis has worked with key CMS vendors, including Adlib and zetcom, to create custom connectors that allow customers to marry the power of Portfolio Server with the rich data of their Collections Management Systems.

The SPECTRUM Standard is used by thousands of heritage and cultural sites across the globe to structure good Collections Management. SPECTRUM DAM was developed in 2013 by the Collections Trust and the SPECTRUM DAM Partner scheme. SPECTRUM DAM provides guidance on integrating digital asset management into an existing Collections Management practice based on SPECTRUM.
In addition to supporting the SPECTRUM Standard in Portfolio Server, Extensis also recently announced it is the first digital asset management (DAM) provider to join the SPECTRUM DAM Partner Scheme.

Used widely in North America, VRA Core is a data standard for the description of works of visual culture as well as the images that document them. The standard is hosted by the Network Development and MARC Standards Office of the Library of Congress (LC) in partnership with the Visual Resources Association.
