Students Take Their Fight against Underage Drinking and Prescription Drug Misuse to the Airways
Baldwin County, AL (PRWEB) July 21, 2014 -- Baldwin County middle and high school students help curb underage drinking and prescription drug misuse using their creative skills. Students from ten schools across the county competed in the Baldwin County Community Alliance (BCCA) contest to produce a 30 second commercial that will air on local television for the next year.
The commercial messages were tailored to young audiences, along with their parents, and illustrated the negative impact of underage drinking or prescription drug misuse. One spot featured a character named ‘Blocker’, that appeared when students were in danger of making a bad decision. The budding Steven Spielbergs were also given the opportunity to appear in the filming of their commercial spots.
Overall winners were Morgan Lassitter, Elberta Middle School; Samantha Kilpsch and Laura Fullerton, both from Daphne High School; and Daniel Lamplugh, Fairhope High School. Other winners include; Madie Condo, Gulf Shores Middle School; Bunni Lerille, Foley Middle School; Robert Morgan and Jaylan Jones, Daphne High School; Scott Clemons and Audra Phillips, Spanish Fort Middle School; Carolina Braga and Ashton Boone, Gulf Shores High School; Annie Morrison, Foley High School. A list of the winners can be found at http://www.proudtobefreebaldwin.org.
The Baldwin County Community Alliance (BCCA) operates under the guidance of AltaPointe Health Systems’ prevention program department. The goal of the BCCA is to decrease availability of alcohol and prescription drugs among youth while changing community norms and attitudes through multiple media campaigns. The BCCA is funded under two grants through the Alabama Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse Services Division. The first is the Substance Abuse Prevention & Treatment Block Grant. The second is the Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant (SPF-SIG).
