School Supplies Give Centennial Elementary Students a Successful Start
Colorado Springs, CO (PRWEB) August 07, 2014 -- When the 2014-15 Centennial Elementary kindergarten returns from lunch on their first day of school on August 12th, dinosaur, lady bug and Hello Kitty backpacks will be waiting for them, along with all the supplies the students will need for the entire year. “Our mission at Centennial is Achievement Now,” said Principal Kim Noyes. “The gift from McDivitt Law Firm of school supplies for our kindergartners is one of the best traditions we have. It supports our mission by outfitting our students with the tools they need to successfully focus on learning.”
As a Title I school, Centennial Elementary provides all of their students, K-5, with school supplies each year. The only cost to families is the $5 fees those students in 1-5th grades are asked to give. To outfit students with their full year of supplies, the cost is approximately $75/student. To help ease the overall costs for the past three years, McDivitt provides all of the supplies for the incoming Kindergarten classes, along with backpacks for those children whose families can’t afford one. Principal Noyes said, “Without the support of community partners, like McDivitt, we would have to use the funds from our Title I budget to purchase these much needed materials.”
This gift frees up the funds so every student at Centennial Elementary can take a community field trip sometime during the school year. For some students, this will be their first experience at a museum or the zoo. “This investment in education is becoming increasingly important in our outreach program, not only to these bright kindergarteners, but to the community as a whole,” said Karen McDivitt, President of McDivitt Law Firm.
Mike, Karen, and David McDivitt will be on-hand at 12:00pm on August 12th to help welcome the kindergarteners to Centennial and present them with their new supplies. David has been asked to oversee story time again this year, which is one of his favorite traditions. The McDivitts will also help with a class art project. “I always look forward to my time with the kids,” Karen said. “Their personalities and excitement for school are inspiring.”
