O'Brien Steel Service Implements STRATIX Metal Industry ERP Software from Invera
Peoria, IL (PRWEB) August 16, 2014 -- O’Brien Steel, a carbon general line metals steel service center, has implemented STRATIX metal service center software from Invera, a metal industry software specialist. STRATIX was implemented at O'Brien Steel and the division Wausau Steel, a recently acquired company.
Benefits
O’Brien Steel implemented a full complement of STRATIX features such as real-time order status, on-line production planning, shop floor receipt of goods, shop-floor production recording, wireless shop-floor functions for location changes and pick recording, production functions for welded assemblies and fabrications, on-line shipment planning, and the scanning and automatic printing or emailing of test certificates at shipping time.
For sales, STRATIX provides features that allow sales to enter a quote or sales order and choose from a list of custom plate burned shapes, making it easier and faster to enter the order. Some of these shapes are squares, rectangles, circles, rings, triangles, ring sections, trapezes, or irregulars. Once the shape is entered, STRATIX computes the estimated processing time as well as the cost and charge for plate burning/cutting, which assists the salesperson in providing a final price to the customer.
Sales also implemented the metal price book, which includes an extensive and flexible metal price database, enabling companies to set pricing levels, discounts, markups, product specific pricing remarks, as well as customer and quantity discounts based on product and class of customer.
The production department is making full use of the online production planning functions to view the order to be picked or processed before releasing it for fulfillment. Production managers now use online production schedules to manage work in the warehouse. As orders are fulfilled, warehouse personnel record production and print any item or package labels using the on-line work center lineup.
JR O’Brien, Inside Sales Manager at O'Brien Steel., added, "The multi-step processing features in STRATIX have really helped O'Brien Steel in our process and quality control, and sales has really benefited from the real-time order status. Some of our plate cut order items can go through anywhere from a single to eight or nine processing steps, and their process routing functions were the perfect fit for that.”
The online shipping planning function provides a comprehensive, multi-layer inquiry that summarizes orders by customer, delivery route, or shipping zone for better load consolidation. The shipping department can highlight orders and create a load with a single click, which has been beneficial for O'Brien Steel who has their own fleet of trucks.
Both the sales and production departments also benefited from the tight integration of the outside processing function with the rest of STRATIX. STRATIX does not differentiate between internal or outside processing, which renders outside processing more tightly integrated with fulfillment. As a result, separate purchase orders are not required for outside processing, saving a tremendous amount of time for the purchasing and sales departments.
Implementation
The implementation of the metals ERP software solution STRATIX included quotes, sales, metal price book, purchasing, receiving, inventory management, multi-step production, production scheduling, delivery and logistics planning, non-conformance reporting, invoicing, and financials.
