Internationally Renowned Heart Surgeon Dr. Michael Borger Joins NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center
New York, NY (PRWEB) September 02, 2014 -- Michael Borger, MD, PhD, has joined NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center as director of aortic surgery, effective August 1. He has also been appointed to the faculty of the Department of Surgery at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons and director of the department’s Cardiovascular Institute.
Dr. Borger is an innovative surgeon specializing in complex aortic surgery, including root and arch replacement and valve repair using both traditional and minimally invasive procedures. Before coming to NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia, he was assistant director of the Department of Surgery at the Leipzig Heart Center and a professor of surgery at the University of Leipzig, in Leipzig, Germany.

A native of Canada, Dr. Borger earned his medical degree at the University of Alberta and his doctorate at the University of Toronto; he completed fellowships at the University of Toronto, Toronto General Hospital, and the University of Leipzig Heart Center.
