(PRWEB) September 11, 2014 -- Ghost Ranch Education & Retreat Center is pleased to announce “Wisdom Sharing—A Deepening Retreat,” with Gloria Steinem, Alice Walker, and Dr. Chung Hyun Kyung, Monday, October 13 through Friday, October 17. These three esteemed and iconic women, who are friends, come together in O’Keeffe’s backyard to explore ways to support the growth and development of the feminine voice and balanced leadership. It all takes place within the sacred landscape of Ghost Ranch, made famous by Georgia O’Keeffe, who lived and painted there beginning in the 1930s. The retreat site encompasses 21,000 acres of towering rock walls, vivid colors, and vast skies.
Steinem, Walker, and Kyung will guide “Wisdom Sharing—A Deepening Retreat” participants in the breadth and depth of the gift of the feminine voice, and in leadership in the world today.

Aaron Stern, Founder and Director of the Academy for the Love of Learning, will lead a conversation with Walker, Steinem, and Kyung: “Leading by Being: Exploring a New Vision of Leadership,” Saturday, October 11, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Lensic Performing Arts Center, in Santa Fe. The lecture is co-presented by the Ghost Ranch Education & Retreat Center and the Academy for the Love of Learning.
Gloria Steinem is a writer, lecturer, editor, and feminist activist. She travels in this and other countries as an organizer and lecturer, and is a frequent media spokeswoman on issues of equality. She is particularly interested in the shared origins of sex and race caste systems, gender roles and child abuse as roots of violence, nonviolent conflict resolution, the cultures of indigenous peoples, and organizing across boundaries for peace and justice. She is the founder of Ms. Magazine.
Alice Walker is an internationally celebrated author, poet, and activist whose books include seven novels, four collections of short stories, four children’s books, and volumes of essays and poetry. She’s the author of “The Color Purple,” the 1983 novel for which she won the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award. She was the first African-American woman to win the Pulitzer Prize in Fiction—although, in her opinion, she was not the first African-American woman to deserve it. The award-winning novel was adapted for Steven Spielberg’s film in 1985, and then for the stage, opening at New York City’s Broadway Theatre in 2005. That production won a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical in 2006.
Dr. Chung Hyun Kyung is a lay theologian of the Presbyterian Church of Korea. In 1999, she lived for a year in a Buddhist monastery in the Himalayas, studying meditation. She first came to international attention in 1991, when she made a now-famous speech—a feminist/Asian/Third World interpretation of the Holy Spirit—at the World Council of Churches in Canberra, Australia.
