Vrvana has designed the Totem headset for developers and designers who wish to get in at the ground level of virtual reality to create 3D immersive film, games and other interactive environments.

Totem offers premium features not found in other VR headsets. It can connect to almost any device including tablets, mobile phones, PCs, laptops, gaming consoles and televisions as well as provide simulated controls for game-play.

Among the distinguishing features:

  • Integrated on-board positional tracking offers user full freedom in VR: Current solutions restrict your movements within an external tracking camera’s field of view. Turn too far left or right and there’s no way there cameras can keep track of user’s VR game movements. Say goodbye to keyboard fumbles: Totem’s on-board cameras also mean that with the click of a button, you can switch from base to virtual world.
  • Low lag between movements and what a user sees: In VR, performance is important so every millisecond counts. Totem’s low latency means no lag between movements and the display. With our patent pending real-time “hardware acceleration”, we compensate distortion right inside the head mounted display, to give you a faster, more natural virtual reality experience.
  • Ability to evolve: Totem is built to evolve with the current fast changing VR space. Our two main processing components: the USB microcontroller and the Audio/Video processor (FPGA) are both field-upgradable with firmware updates. As we develop new features or improve old ones, developers will have access to them right away. We love future-proofing and hate obsolescence.
  • Immersive, realistic audio. Audio contributes to the feeling of immersion in a phenomenal way and we’ve paid special attention to it. Distinguish where sounds are coming from with surround sound in stereo (binaural). We convert surround sound to stereo while maintaining spatial awareness, and output it to 3.5 mm jacks for use with your own headphones.
