UDG Successfully Completes New Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course - New Racino Entertainment Concept Integrates Horse Racing and Gaming
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) October 01, 2014 -- UDG, Inc. recently completed overseeing the construction of the new Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course in Austintown, Ohio. The new entertainment complex sits on a 195-acre site just south of I-80 and includes a horse track, grandstand and a gaming floor with up to 1,000 video lottery terminals (VLTs).
A unique design element of the project is how the elevated sports bar serves as the central design feature integrating gaming and racing, since it is shared by all patrons. It is located to provide spectacular views down to the gaming floor as well as out across the beautifully landscaped horse track. The “racino” concept offers an increasingly-popular combination of gaming and horse racing. The property is managed by Penn National Gaming (PNG), currently the largest operator of horse racing facilities in the country.
UDG served as the design architect and the architect of record and was also commissioned to provide master planning, programming, back-of-house interior design, construction management and coordination of interior theming services. The new $98+ million (construction related cost) facility was designed using Penn National Gaming’s Hollywood theme which complements the art deco style of the Golden Age of Hollywood. The project also features an entertainment bar, sports bar and a food court with three venues. The state-of-the-art racing facility features a 1-mile thoroughbred track for daytime racing with 547 clubhouse seats, 454 trackside seats, simulcast theater, 1,000 year-round horse stalls and a dormitory for the groomsmen. Racing is scheduled to begin November 24, 2014.
“We sincerely appreciate our close relationship with Penn National Gaming that allows us to design world-class entertainment venues,” said Don Buenger, AIA, LEED AP, Principal with UDG. “As architects, we enjoy working closely with our clients to develop unique design solutions. Through a highly collaborative approach, the owner’s reps and the design and construction team were able to keep this fast-track project on schedule while still maintaining tight budgets. Ultimately, our highest goal was to make all moving parts connect to enhance the enjoyment of each patron.”
