U.S. Security Associates Security Officers Save Lives
ATLANTA, Georgia (PRWEB) October 16, 2014 -- Sheriff Richard Roundtree of Richmond County, S.C. honors Raisa Garnett with a Commendation Award for recent action that helped to save the life of a two-week-old baby. Garnett is employed as a security officer by the Columbia, S.C. branch of national security company U.S. Security Associates (USA).
Garnett was on parking patrol at a local community college when a concerned citizen reported hearing the sound of a crying baby coming from a parked SUV. Investigation led Garnett to a locked vehicle with a baby inside, parked in an area with no shade. Garnett called 911 and helped the responding officer devise a plan to squeeze through the sunroof and unlock the car. The baby’s mother was inside the college taking a final exam as the temperature rose dangerously in the vehicle where she had left her baby. John MacLeod, USA’s district manager in Columbia, applauds Garnett’s urgent response and quick thinking. “Officer Garnett played a heroic part in rescuing that baby from the number one car-related killer for kids – heatstroke.”
Another USA security officer is also in the spotlight for lifesaving action during a parking patrol shift. Officer Elleni Admassu, an employee of the Denver, CO. branch of U.S. Security Associates, recently intervened in an attempted suicide. While conducting an exterior patrol for an electronics client, Admassu stopped to question an unauthorized individual sitting in his car. After the man failed to respond to her inquiry, Admassu spotted a hose running into the car from its exhaust pipe and realized she was witnessing an apparent attempt at suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning. She immediately called emergency service personnel, who were able to revive the unconscious man and transport him to a hospital. Officer Admassu is the recipient of the U.S. Security Associates Meritorious Service Award.
The Meritorious Service Award is part of an innovative program that earned USA the Bronze Award this September for “Best in Rewards and Recognition” in the Brandon Hall Group Excellence Awards Program.
“We count on our security officers to rise to the occasion when it really counts, and we are committed to acknowledging the difference their contributions make,” explains Denver District Manager Robert Arko. “Without Officers Raisa Garnett and Elleni Admassu, two lives might have been lost this summer.”
