Bill Murray named 2014 ISE® Luminary Leadership Award Winner
ATLANTA, Ga. (PRWEB) October 20, 2014 -- T.E.N., a technology and information security executive networking and relationship-marketing firm, announced today that William H. Murray, renowned author and industry visionary, has been named the 2014 ISE® Luminary Leadership Award winner. Presented annually, the ISE® Luminary Leadership Award celebrates the achievements of an outstanding leader and industry practitioner for his or her distinguished service, stewardship and contributions in advancing the information security industry.
Formerly with IBM, Murray is a management consultant and trainer in Information Assurance specializing in policy, governance, and applications. He is Certified Information Security Professional (CISSP) and chairman of the Governance and Professional Practices committees of (ISC)2, the certifying body. He has more than 50 years of experience in information technology with 40 of those years in security.
“Bill Murray is most deserving of this award as he has served the Information Security community for decades. He has provided technical, policy and management expertise to thousands of security professionals,” said 2013 ISE® Luminary Leadership Award Winner Howard Schmidt. “He has been a mentor to many as well as serving in leadership roles for various information security professional organizations. He is truly deserving of this award.”
During more than twenty-five years with IBM, Murray’s management responsibilities included development of access control programs, advising IBM customers on security, and the articulation of the IBM security product plan. He is the author of the IBM publication Information System Security Controls and Procedures, and has been honored as a visionary in the information security industry.
“There are few people who truly embody the idea of ‘luminary leadership’. Not only has Bill been a leader in the information security field for decades, he continues to give back to the profession and to the industry,” said Anne Kuhns, retired chief information security offers for The Walt Disney Company and 2012 ISE® Luminary Leadership Award Winner. “His leadership on standards boards has touched the entire industry and his many contributions to not only the companies for which he has worked as a practitioner but to the industry through his many outreach endeavors are truly exemplary of leadership. I consider him a giant in the profession.”
Kuhns will present Murray with his award during the evening gala that is part of the ISE® North America Leadership Summit and Awards on Nov. 5, 2014 at the Westin Alexandria in Alexandria, VA. Murray will serve as the keynote speaker discussing “Security’s Dirty Little Secrets” during the forum the following morning at the same location. Event attendees can earn up to 9 CPEs for participating in the two-day leadership summit, which will offer dynamic presentations and engaging roundtable discussions — lead by ISE® Alumni — highlighting a spectrum of the industry’s most critical issues and innovative best practices.
